Known issues
86-0947139-B SmartFilter 4.2.0.xx Release Notes 7
• SmartReporter obtains user group information from the configured user
directories only. Therefore, internal SmartFilter user and IP groups are not
available in reporting.
• On Windows 2003, the SmartReporter header may repeat without
displaying a report when you click the
Quick View button. To resolve this,
add the SmartReporter host site to the Local intranet list in your Internet
Explorer, as follows:
a Click Tools > Options > Security > Local intranet > Sites.
b Enter your host name.
c Click the Add button.
Authentication issues
Please note the following authentication issues:
• To obtain proper group information when using SmartFilter transparent
authentication with a Microsoft ISA Server plugin, you must use an Active
Directory type directory resource with the
Allow Windows NTLM
Authentication
option enabled.
• When using transparent authentication, a user’s Active Directory logon
name must match their
SAMAccountName. If the two do not match, then
groups are not found when filtering the user.
• For transparent authentication with a Squid proxy server, use the NTLM
authentication in Squid instead of the SmartFilter authentication server.
• If you experience problems with transparent authentication when using a
proxy, use the following procedure:
1 Add the authentication server to the browser’s list of trusted hosts that it
will authenticate to automatically. This can be configured with Active
Directory to apply to all users in the domain; or, individually on specific
clients. To do this use the appropriate second bullet procedure in the
section “Troubleshooting NTLM authentication” in Chapter 3 of the
SmartFilter Administration Guide.
2 Configure the browser to bypass the proxy when talking to the
authentication server. This can be configured with Active Directory to
apply to all users in the domain; or individually on specific clients.
For Internet Explorer:
a Go to Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings. The Local
Area Network (LAN) Settings window appears.
b In the Proxy Server section of the window, click Advanced.
c In the Exceptions field, enter the IP address or hostname of the
authentication server.
d Click OK to save changes and exit the windows.
